Title: The Science of Philip Pullman's ''His Dark Materials''
Author: Gribbin, John and Mary

Philip Pullman wrote a trilogy that includes "The Golden Compass," "The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass," which describes travel between numerous worlds, some like our own and some very different. The scientific elements of these books seem outlandish to us, but many have a basis in fact. This book helps the reader to understand Pullman's science and perhaps gives a better understanding of his books.
Title: Two in the Wilderness: Adventures of a Mother and Daughter in the Adirondack Mountains
Author: Weber, Sandra

Photography by Carl E. Heilman II. The Adirondack Park is right in our back yard, but how many of us truly appreciate its beauty and all it has to offer. The gorgeous photography of this book brings the beauty to us, as does the journal kept by a mother and daughter who did a 60-mile, two-week hike through the Adirondacks. Their account is sure to inspire many others to do the same.
Title: Ms. Frizzle''s Adventures: Imperial China
Author: Cole, Joanna

The team that created the Magic School Bus series takes on history in a new series. Written in a format similar to graphic novels, readers are introduced to the culture and customs of ancient China. With children as characters transported in time, it makes for an entertaining book.
Title: Panda Math: Learning about Subtraction from Hua Mei and Mei Sheng
Author: Nagda, Ann Whitehead

Hua Mei is the first surviving panda cub born in the United States. She has a little brother who was born four years later. This book follows their lives from birth to the present and intersperses neat hints to make subtraction easy to learn. Wonderful color photographs complete this informative book.
Title: My Librarian Is a Camel: How Books Are Brought to Children Around the World
Author: Ruurs, Margriet

While right here in Clifton Park, residents can walk into the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library and take out books whenever they want, it is not the same everywhere. Books are delivered by mail, donkey-pulled carts, boats and even elephants and camels. This is a fascinating look at how people in other parts of the world get their reading materials. Each double-spread page talks about the kind of book delivery used in a particular country and has an insert with a map and more information about the country.
